Darrin and Katee Chemo Update
dclock August 30th, 2007
Posted by Darrin: Well, this is my third dose of the new treatment. It is not as bad as my old chemotherapy, as I don’t have as much pain. However, it does take much longer to administer. I started the chemo on Tuesday, and needed to go back the next morning for 2 more hours of treatment. I am pretty sore and tired…..The main side-effects have been trouble sleeping, sore bones and nausea. Katee went with me to treatment yesterday, and we sat through her Chemo training together. They outlined her schedule and expected side-effects. It sounds like she will keep most of her hair, but will be very tired and sensitive to hot and cold. I sure hate the thought of her having to go through all this. Today she starts her first dose of Iron. Apparently Katee had been bleeding for some time prior to catching the cancer, and her Iron level is very low. They want to get her Iron level up prior to starting the chemo. It looks like she will be starting her therapy within the next 10 days. The Doctors have requested that Katee and I not go to chemo treatment together. They feel that it might not be good for Katee to watch my side-effects, and that it would be deterimental to her mental state. I don’t know that we agree, but we will do what they ask. An article came out today in the Douglas County News-Press on our situation. We will get it posted on the site soon. As a final note, we all (as a family) are exhusted from all this. Kim is trying to balance her job, and yet be there for Katee and I. Ami is back in school for her Senior year, and yet she worries about Katee all the time. I’m sure we will find a balance, but it has been a difficult few weeks.
Darrin and Kim ~ Trudy sent us the update on Darrin and Katee, and I was so sorry to hear what you have been going through. Bob and I found out about the dinner when we were in the process of moving. If we had known, we certainly would have been there for you. Your “upbeat” attitude is so wonderful. And, I have looked through the pictures and you all look so wonderful. We are making a donation, and will continue to look for the updates from Trudy. Currently, we are living in Missouri and love being around Karen and her family. Karen sends her very best to all of you. Please forgive me for not getting in contact sooner. You have always been very special to me (since our days at COTR). I love you and you have my prayers daily.
